"It's How We Show Up That Matters More"
Updated: Dec 15, 2020
“Showing up is important, but it’s how we show up that matters more.”
I recently read these words in the book Do Better Work – a book by Max Yoder. Yoder is the founder of Lessonly and started the company with the mission of helping companies do better work so they can live better lives. I’m nearly done with the book, and have thoroughly enjoyed it, but this quote has been my biggest takeaway.
We can push ourselves to show up (work, relationships, practice, etc.), but it’s not as easy to show up with a purpose on a consistent basis. As an athlete, I’ve always been told by coaches to avoid “going through the motions” and I’m amazed by how challenging this can be.
As life seems to speed up with a job, school, & a small business – I have adopted the “one day at a time” mentality. When we look at the next month, showing up with a positive attitude every single day can seem overwhelming. When we rest & look at tomorrow, showing up with the intent to make an impact seems much more feasible.
